‘Ndoro Silver’, Gaborone – Botswana – 2005
‘Artists in Botswana Exhibition 2004’, National Museum & Art Gallery, Gaborone – Botswana - 2004After almost 8 years working in administrative posts for my local Council, I realised that office work was not what I wanted to do for the rest of my working life.  I needed to change direction.

Influenced by my late father, I have always had an interest in art. I spent hours drawing and painting as a child and loved art lessons at school.  So, with my husband's support, I left my last admin post in 1999 to go back into full time education, first to do an Art Foundation Diploma at Tameside College and then on to a BA (Hons) Degree in 3 Dimensional Design at Manchester Metropolitan University. I graduated in 2003 after enjoying every minute of my time at college and university.*

I was born in Oldham and currently live and work in Diggle, Saddleworth.

*Two years after I graduated, during a loft clearout, I found a job aptitude printout, from a long forgotten careers lesson. It stated that the answers I had given in a questionnaire pointed towards my suitability for a career in 3 dimensional design. I got there eventually.Eleanor Bolton is a British jewellery and accessories designer based in London UK. During her MA at the Royal College of Art Eleanor developed a unique craft technique, coiling and hand stitching cotton rope to create lightweight tactile jewellery. This technique now forms the basis for Eleanor’s collections. Sculptural in quality, Eleanor’s jewellery comes from her focus on an intuitive and sensitive approach to the micro details of making processes, as well as to the precise scale of the pieces. This attention to detail, combined with the innovative use of the materials define Eleanor’s approach and strong aesthetic appeal, forming an alternative point of view on the boundaries between art and design.

Since graduating from the Royal College of Art in 2010, Eleanor’s designs have received high profile press attention including having her MA graduate collection featured in Vogue Paris. Eleanor’s designs have been showcased in exhibitions at major galleries including the Saatchi Gallery and the V&A in London, the Museum of Arts & Design in New York and Galerie Marzee in the Netherlands. In 2011 Eleanor’s jewellery designs were selected for ‘Talente’, the annual review of the best new designs in Europe.

Since the label launched in 2010, the collections are sold through both fashion boutiques and design galleries. Eleanor also works to commission with both private and commercial clients. Recent exciting commissions have included designing the window displays for Moussaieff’s Bond Street flagship store as part of British Vogue’s ‘Street Lights’ project, being commissioned by stylist Victoria Young to create jewellery for an advertising campaign and commissions by stylist Jane How for British Vogue.

Before studying at the RCA Eleanor completed her BA (Hons) in Jewellery Design at The Cass [London Metropolitan University] and worked for renowned London jewellery designers including Hannah Martin, Laura Tabor and Tatty Devine.
